About Dubes

A general meeting of The School of Commerce was held in the West Theatre building on Monday 10th March 1930… The object of the meeting was to consider the possibility of forming a Commerce Society in Trinity College… The chairman proposed the motion “That this meeting is in favour of the formation of a Commerce Society” which was carried unanimously (DUBES records)… The Commerce Society, later Dublin University Commerce and Economics Society, then Dublin University Economics Society and today Dublin University Business and Economics Society had come into existence! Some records even suggest that the formation of the society dates back to the early 1920′s.

Now in our 80th Session, we are one of the biggest societies in college and the biggest of the BESS faculty. The principal aim of DUBES remains the same as in 1930, to further the academic and social interests of our members. We’ve come a long way in our 79 years but still achieve this aim through a healthy mix of social and academic events.
